North Island, Seychelles

The exclusive and yet down to earth North Island development has been open for just over three years. It’s a magical island within sight of the Seychelles’ principle island of Mahe. Encapsulated by shades of translucent blue sea and sky and framed by pristine beaches, North Island offers a refreshing combination of harmony, sophistication, warmth and simple honesty.
North Island is a sanctuary for guests and, more importantly, for nature itself. A strong focus on the regeneration and restoration of indigenous fauna and flora is one of the Island’s core philosophies.
The project is an exciting conservation effort which gives North Islanders the once in a lifetime opportunity to make a significant and positive impact on this region, its wildlife and the environment. Their aim is for North Island to be run as a successful, sustainable and ecologically sensitive operation which will enhance this precious natural treasure.
Part of this focus is the Noah’s Ark concept, a concerted and well-planned programme to turn back the ecological clock for the Island, while providing visitors with a refreshing and enlivening holiday.
To accommodate guests, eleven luxurious Villas have been built, mainly using materials reaped from the rehabilitation process. The Villas reflect the relaxed elegance and serenity at the heart of the North Island experience.

The Villas have been lovingly created from wood, local stone and glass, with thatched roofs that complete the magnificent design. Particular attention has been paid to capturing the essence of “barefoot luxury” as each Villa is focused on providing the guest with privacy and abundant space to maximize their island-style experience.
Each Villa has a panoramic view of sand and sea, private plunge pool, sala, a roomy studio (or second bedroom), kitchenette, expansive lounge, main bedroom and en-suite bathroom with a marble bath and inside and outside shower, so that you need never need to leave the Villa during your stay.
There are numerous activities for guests to take part in and programmes will be tailor-made to suit specific interests. All activities have been designed to give guests the chance to enjoy the many aspects that the Island has to offer.
So, whether you’re keen on scuba diving or snorkeling, sea kayaking, fishing, island hopping, walking, cycling, finding out more about the conservation programme, working out in the gym or being pampered by the spa team, there’s plenty to do.

And to end off your day on the Island you could stroll along Grande Anse beach to the simple, rustic sunset bar for a snack and sundowner, and even dinner, should you choose.
With the subtle fusion of high tech facilities, such as Internet access and satellite TV, and its stylish Robinson Crusoe look and feel, North Island guests are ensured a rare taste of paradise.
Conde Nast Traveller UK rated North Island as one of the world’s 50 cool hotels and one of the sexiest new places across the globe!
American magazine, Organic Style, named North Island as one of their greatest escapes.
Canadian Robb Report’s 16th Annual “Best of the Best” named North Island as the Best of the Best Resort. The ultimate “island paradise,” North Island was selected by Robb Report editors, who were impressed by its 11 secluded 5,000 square-foot Villas, tropical elegance and the exceptional cuisine offered by this “sanctuary in the Seychelles.”

North Island was also named the UK Sunday Times Travel Magazine’s Best Resort in 2003. According to the editor, Brian Schofield, “Style in the travel industry is all about making the guest feel relaxed and welcome, as opposed to being awe struck. North Island has set a towering new standard in barefoot luxury and has leaped to the top of the world’s Honeymoon Hot list. North Island is as luxurious and private as anyone can wish for. In addition, the judges were duly impressed by its dedication to the environment.” The magazine itself quotes that, “North Island really is a once in a lifetime experience and most of us will probably only experience the many destinations that will feel its influence and will copy its tricks, but the judges agreed that this kind of vision deserves recognition.”
